Screen off with no reason

Hello all,

I have this really odd problem on my windows xp PC, I'm working on it and
then suddenly with no reason the screen flicker and when it is back the
icons on desktop have a mixed up colors, sometimes the screen don't go back
to life just stay black, and sometimes it is turned off just like when you
have set up a very high resoulation, it started with games (like Luxor 3, or
tuble bugs) and now it is happening with everything.

I've formatted my PC after trying everything i know but after clean
installaiton of windows xp SP2, I'm having the same problem, now it is worse
actually becaues it occures in windows explorer sometimes.

any suggestions,

Can you connect the monitor to another PC and see if the behavior is the
same? It sounds like it is failing.

I've connected the monitor to my laptop and it is working fine.

I've run dxdiag.exe and all dispaly test passed, what could be the problem

Perhaps heat is affecting the video adapter.(remove cover on PC and
observe effect) I suppose there is a remote chance the issue is
connector related at the card to monitor connector.

Yes, it sounds like a problem with the video card rather than the
monitor. As the first troubleshooting after that, I was going to
suggest opening the computer, blowing any accumulated dust off the
video card, checking to make sure its fan is turning (assuming it's
actively cooled), and then removing it, cleaning its contacts, and
reseating it.
