I think that this applet (may just be a script file) simply makes sure
that the Registry entries for the optical drives are correct. If the
problem really is caused by corrupt drivers, it will not help, but it
won't hurt anything. The drives are different, but they're almost
surely using the built-in Windows driver for optical drives. Just
because the message says the drivers or missing or corrupt doesn't
literally mean that they are. If Doug Knox's fix doesn't do it for
you, Microsoft has further explanations and even a downloadable
"Guided Help" for the problem here:
