Dvd re writer back to basic reader
I have an Optiarc/nec/Sony ad7200s re writer. Was working in Windows oK but
now for some reason it is only recognised by Win XP Pro as a read only drive.
When I put a blank cd or dvd in the drive I do not get the window opening
which gives me a list of options for the blank disk. If I open explorer and
try to read the drive I get an error message telling me to put a disk in the
drive. The drive works perfectly if I use Nero or CD creator or any of my
copying software like DVD shrink or clone cd.
Any help would be appreciated.

At best XP would only see the CD as writable, it doesn't do DVD writing
natively. The effects you see are typically caused by having installed
third party software that has changed the settings for how Windows sees
the drive. Review any recent software additions or updates, relating to
CD/DVD programs or "virtual CD" software.

Right click on this drive and check the under the Recording Tab. This
should let configure the CD writing native to XP for this drive.

As previous statedm XP will not write to most DVD media fromats
natively.
