The BIOS of these laptops are very "simple". They don't have any
"normal" BIOS options that allow you to enable/disable the cd-rom.
The only other way to test them would be to try to boot from cd. Next
time I have the laptop in front of me (it is used by another user), I
will have to try this.
As for the Firmware updates; no updates have been made to the cd-rom's
firmware. However, I did burn the bootable firmware disc, so I can try
that as well and see if the firmware fixes it or not. However, if the
BIOS doesn't detect the cd-rom, then I can't boot from the firmware
disc.
I thought about importing registry entries from another laptop of the
same type which is working and see if that fixes it as well.
Other than that, I don't know, I figure it's probably a motherboard
issue.
