xp?

Hi,please can anyone help? I am using windows xp with service pack 2.
Just recently a couple of programmes I have downloaded,on
installation,come up with the message "this programme need windows xp
to run" the trouble is,that is what I am using! It is soooooo annoying
as I don't know what I have done,if anything.Ant suggestions would be
greatly appreciated.
