OS won't boot?

when i try to start xp i get this error C:\WINDOWS\AppPatch\drvmain.sdb
file missing or corrupt you can fix this by pressing "r" on the first
screen when you boot with the XP cd in the cdrom drive (or similar )
I have tried the recovery concil several times BOOTCFG and other commands ,
the computer will not boot onto windows to an inplace install... so i think
it's impossible unless i reformat completely but i have alot of info .. i
hooked it up as a slave and tried to access the files but i was denied
access
does anyone know how i can get this to boot ?
