internet explorer opens always with connecting ... - Why ?

Whenever I open internet explorer 7.0 it hangs for 3 seconds with a
message "connecting..."

WHat is it connecting to ?
How can I stop it ?

When the home page is set to 'about:blank' it doesn't do that. IE, Tools
menu, Options, 'use blank' button.

Thanks for your reply.
I already had it set to blank and it still takes a few seconds trying
to connect for soem reason. I have a pentium 3. If you have a pent IV
you might not notice it.
