Google for "XP does not recognize DVD drive" and variations
thereof. MS has a fairly fix for this on their site I believe.
The reason the BIOS recognizes the drives is because the BASIC
CD/DVD drive drivers/hardware have been the same for ages. It's
Windows that is screwing you up, OR something went wrong with
your CD/DVD burning/virtual drive program(s). Do NOT use the
burner that comes with XP. I don't know why the virtual drives
don't work - try a Google search for that - ie using the word
"virtual CD drive" as well.
You /might/ try uninstalling Daemon as well, I can't BELIEVE
it's a 10MB DL! There are several similar tools, one of which is
a 160KB (sic) plugin for Total Commander, the best file manager
around.
Here's a FREE drive emulator program - an old version of which I
have been using for years, works perfectly:

www.imgburn.com has a free burner program which is recommended
by many people - I haven't tried it myself but that is fairly
irrelevant. I have seen a LOT of very good comments.
You /might/ find everything starts to work just after getting
rid of daemon and/or installing the imgburn program or another
virtual drive program.
