Blank desktop after login
I have approximately 1600 users that are running WinXP SP2. About 3 months
ago, the help desk received a call from one user who said that when he logged
into the network, the screen cleared, and he got his normal blue background
but no icons or taskbar. He was told to press Ctrl-Alt-Del and log out then
login again at which point he got all his icons and taskbar and everything
worked normally. He sporadically gets this problem but it only seems to
happen after a cold boot. In the past month, this same problem has been
cropping up on about 15 other computers; most times it is sporadic, but a
couple of users get it most every morning when they login.

I have researched this problem and found multiple references to the problem
being the SHDOCVW.DLL file being corrupt and to delete it and reboot to have
windows recreate it. Unfortunately that did not resolve the problem. I have
found quite a few people on forums looking for a solution to this same
problem, but no one solid fix.

Has anyone else seen this problem and found a fix for it?

Re: Blank desktop after login
They are having some Taskbar problem. There is probably some registry entry
for their profile that is corrupt. You could try this utility.

Taskbar Repair Tool Plus!: http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/taskbarplus!.htm
