Correcting system displayed name
If you go to control panel to system you will see your name displayed.
It seems that the name displayed here is also the place the name is
obtained to display it on 'your documents folders etc. How does one
change this name? The reason that I ask is that my wifes old laptop has
always had her name displayed incorrectly spelled & she wishes to
correct it.

Thanks in advance

No, your assumption is incorrect. You cannot change the account names that
appear in the C:\Documents and settings folder. I suggest that you createa
new user account with the name spelled correctly. Then transfer the files
from the old account to the new one and delete the old account.

To change the name that appears under registered owner on the system applet,

http://www.pctools.com/guides/registry/detail/32/

But that will not change the account names.

Re: Correcting system displayed name
Create a new account, copy (do not use the 'Move' option) the user (My
documents) files over to the new account.
If after you have done this and you find you can not access the files see
below. Do not delete any of the files in the old account until you are 100%
certain that all is well with the new account.

Re: Correcting system displayed name
Control panel, user accounts applet, create a new account.

You could have found that out using XP's help and support (click start,
click help and support, search for create user account: it will also give
you an overview of user accounts, worth reading).
