strange workgroup icon
I have workgroup icon that just appeared in my network as MSHOME as a
computer. I have my notebook and printer and router already there and working
.. I can't log on to it as it asks for a user name and password that I don't
know. I don't know how to remove it.

I think it is your Neighbour Wireless connection appeared in your
Connection Control panel.
Try to Click Refresh or do this:

Click Start >> D Click Control panel >> D Click Network and Internet
Connections >> D Network Connections and right click the Wireless Network
Connection select properties.
On the Wireless Network Connection Properties click on Wireless Networks Tab.
On the The wireless Networks under this option you can remove the MSHOME
icon by doing this:

Preferred networks:
__________________________________________|
| Û© MSHOME (Automatic)
| Û© Your Network Name here (Auto)
|
|
|-----------------------------------------------------
[Add ] [ Remove..] [Properties..]

Highlight the network you don't want and click Remove Button.

Or while on Network Connection Click on your wireless then click on the Left
handside the option for View Available Wireless networks to remove it.

Did this machine been in a Workgroup and does the Printer wireless or wired
to the Machine/Router?.
HTH.

Disable NetBios over TCP/IP option by doing this:
Click Start >> Control Panel >> Network Connections, on the Wireless
Right Click and select properties.
On the Wireless Properties Window Click on General Tab then highlight the
TCP/IP and click Properties.
On the TCP/IP properties click on Advanced Button then on WINS Tab and make
sure the Netbios over TCP/IP option (Radio Button Not Checked) or click on
Disable NetBios Over TCP, also you can use the Default Radio Button (try each
one if the other didn't help) then click [OK] then [OK] to close and Reboot
your machine, do you still see the workgroup?.

If you do try these Commands:
Open a run command and type in:
cmd.exe click [OK] a C:\ prompt window will open type in the prompt command:
SHOWGRPS domain\username
NET VIEW
NET STOP MSHOME
NET GROUP MSHOME /DELETE
Or NET LOCALGROUP MSHOME /DELETE
C:\>NET LOCALGROUP spud /DELETE

Or Uninstall the TCP/IP and then restablish the Internet connection setup:
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/win...o_Removing.htm
Note: the above will make you lose the connection and you start from
scratch on connecting to the internet?.
