Re: Icons
Try dragging with the right mouse button, release the button, and select
"copy here" from the menu that pops up.

Right-click the Taskbar, click Toolbars, Quick Launch. Then drag to
that toolbar.

Have you enabled the Quick Launch toolbar?

Right click an open area on your Taskbar and select Properties from the menu.
Note: You can also go to Control Panel to launch the Taskbar and Start menu
properties sheet.
On the Taskbar page, make sure "Show Quick Launch" is checked.
You should now be able to drop shortcut onto the QL toolbar.
Note: If you want all your shortcuts to be visible, right click the Taskbar and
click on "Lock the Taskbar".
You should now see a dotted double line to the right of the icons on the QL
toolbar.
Move your mouse pointer over this double line until it turns into a double
headed arrow.
Click with your left mouse button and drag it to the right.
Note: The default behavior is to make excess shortcuts on the QL toolbar show up
when you click on the chevron.

Good luck

Re: Icons
Yeah, always good to have it enable before trying to add icons to it, forgot
to mention that.

Re: Icons
Since the default is to not show the QL toolbar, I figured I'd throw that out as
a possibility, but it looks like your response got the job done for the OP.

First, you need to understand the various bars and parts of bars that
can exist.

Let's start with the Task Bar. The Task Bar is, by default, on the
bottom of the screen (although it can be dragged to any side you
prefer it on. It has the Start button on the left, and on the right,
the area with the clock is called the System Notification Area (or,
informally, the System Tray).

The Task Bar contains icons for running programs. You can't add an
icon there itself. The only way to get something on it is to run a
program.

The Task Bar can also contain various toolbars. What I think you are
interested in is a particular toolbar called the Quick Launch Bar.
Note that the Quick Launch Bar is not the Task Bar itself, and is not
even a part of the Task Bar. Although the Quick Launch Bar appears
*on* the Task Bar by default, it can be dragged off the Task Bar and
moved to another side of the screen.

It isn't entirely clear from your question, but I think I understand
that what you want to do is put icons onto the Quick Launch Bar.

If that's correct, the first thing you have to do is ensure that the
Quick Launch Bar is visible. Right-click an empty part of the Task
Bar, choose Toolbars, and make sure that Quick Launch is checked. If
it isn't, click it to check it.

Once you've done that, you will be able to drag shortcut icons to the
Quick Launch Bar.
