Window Xp Shutting down Problem

My fiance's laptop is having a problem with shutting down, it wont shut down
if it have any update that needs to be restarting.

Anyone knows why it does that? Is a Virus stop it being shut down?

Any help would be apperiate.

Hi there again,

I have tried look those up and those dont help at all to get the laptop to
shut down. But when I do the safe mode it will shut down but in normal
windows it wont shut down. Also when load the windows to log in, i ask it to
shut down it does. Not when I am on the windows, it WONT do shut down.

what I should do?
