Microsoft Management Console
HELLO,
Can anybody tell me how to reinstall the MMC and Disk defragmenter? I have
over 10 years exp. in computer repair. so please, i have tried the basic's
and some reg editing all to no avail. i need to know how to unistall the
whole thing so that I can reinstall the whole unit. i still have the defrag
inf, and .dll. I was trying diskeeper 2008 who makes defrager for microsoft.
when I uninstalled it it also toke out the MMC snap-in and the default
defragmenter. I have been in contact with diskeeper and there solution failed
also! any help would be greatly appricieated. I have screen pictures for
anybody wanting to see this strange turn of events. (I am currently using my
trusty toshiba laptop to communicate. my problems are on my MPC desktop
running windows XP pro with service pack 3 and all the goodies).
thanks,
best regards,

Re: Microsoft Management Console
Dear Claymore,
Hello,
tried that earlier today and I get a message stating that I am running it
already! you see when you in the disk management its like half of the program
is there! i have the radio buttons, but no fonts on anything. from experience
I know which button is what. when clicking on any f the buttons(analize
defrag etc) it freezes xp. i have tried downloading and like i said, I get a
ameesage saying I already have it. that is why I am looking for a total
uninstall solution so that i can reinstall a fresh copy of disk manaement. by
doing this I hope that the default defragmenter comes back (yes i have tried
to reinstall the dfrg.dll and also in the console window. it tells me all
went well, but after a reboot and you go and check nothing!).

Re: Microsoft Management Console
Pablo
What errors appear in Event Viewer?
Please post a copy of the Error Report from Event Viewer.
You can access Event Viewer by selecting Start, Control Panel,
Administrative Tools, and Event Viewer.
A tip for posting copies of Error Reports! Run Event Viewer and double
click on the error you want to copy. In the window, which appears is a
button resembling two pages. Click the button and close Event
Viewer. Now start your message (email) and do a paste into the body of
the message. Make sure this is the first paste after exiting from
Event Viewer.

Hope this helps.

Hello again Pable,
In yoyr efforts to fix this, did you try any of these:
Go to Start => Run and type in (or copy/paste) each of these in turn,
clicking OK after each:
regsvr32 dfrgsnap.dll
regsvr32 dfrgui.dll
{There is a space after regsvr32}
and also this one:
regsvr32 /i shell32.dll
{There is a space before and after /i}
If that didn't work, try this:
Locate this file:
C:\Windows\Inf\dfrg.inf
Right-click on it and select 'Install'.
and ...
Go to Start => Run and type in services.msc
Make sure the Service 'DCOM Service Process Launcher' is set to
Automatic and Started.
