Installation problem for WinXP Home SP2

Hello All,

I am trying to install WinXP SP2 on my new DIY desktop. However, the
following error message was prompted when starting Windorws:

"A problem has been deteted and Windows has been shut down to prevent damage
to your computer."

Its suggestions are: check virus, remove any newly installed hard drives or
hard drive controllers

Technical information: Stop - OxOOOOOO7B, OxF78D2524, OxC0000034,
Ox00000000, Ox00000000

My desktop PC has:

Intel E8400
Asus P5K Pro
Seagate SATA 250G
Antec Neo 430

The hard disk is new and unformatted. It should not have any virus. BIOS
successfully detected the hard disk. I only changed the SATA configuration
to AHCI and boot up sequence (DVD ROM first and then Hard Disk). Other BIOS
setups remain unchanged. The hard disk was correctly plugged as Master
while the DVD ROM was Slave. The DVD ROM is also SATA.

Any solution will be welcomed and appreciated!

When you begin to install...you need to press F6 and load your SATA drivers

It still failed with the AHCI driver contained in the disc provided by mb
vendor. It installation process encountered error again after I had
selected the driver/adaptor: Intel SATA AHCI Controller (Desktop ICH9R).
Any further advice? Thanks a lot!

but... even though the machine is new I'd run a RAM test just as a
precaution

I don't think installing a auxiliary SATA controller driver via the F6
process is your problem.

You say you're trying to install SP2 onto that Seagate SATA HDD. So can we
assume that XP with or without SP1 was already installed on that drive and
the system was working just fine - it booted without incident and functioned
without any problems? So all you're trying to do is add SP2 to the existing
XP OS, right?

And the Seagate is the *only* internal HDD in the system, right?

Check the BIOS setting for SATA configuration and see if it's set to AHCI.
If so, change the setting to IDE (the default), reboot, and see if that
corrects the problem.

Windows XP does not fully support ACHI, however the default sata drivers only
emulate AHCI, you can do either of the following, under bios return the SATA
mode to ATA, this will allow you to boot normally, if you want to load the
AHCI drivers you can do the following, under ATA mode, log off your computer,
go back into the bios and return the sata mode to AHCI, after you exit the
system and your computer restarts press F8 to load the windows boot menu,
select "safe mode" when windows boots up it will load the defaulted sata
drivers. while in safe mode, install your mother board drivers. under intel
chipsets, install the latest storage manager software, you can get this from
intel, once you load the new drivers reboot once more normally. this will
solve your problem, but remember under XP you are only emulating the AHCI
interface, there is no significant features or reliability that you will gain
other than a few advanced HDD features that you may or may not gain.
