XP Pro firewall locked.
I have a couple of XP Pro machines with this problem.

We have a LAN based on SBS 2003. I can ping them successfully but I cannot
access their shares. Figuring that there may be a firewall issue, I decided
to disable it to see if that made a difference. However the firewall is set
to on but all the radio buttons are dimmed. The 'Don't allow exceptions'
tick box is available though. It is the only thing that is. Any idea what is
happening?

When I enter \\WkStn13 into the address bar of an explorer window I get the
"Windows cannot find 'WkStn13'. Check spelling, try again. Try searching.."
etc. error.

Re: XP Pro firewall locked.
If ping works, it's not likely to be the firewall. You need to set the share
somehow different. When a system is not setup to share with that user, the
system is not found.

Re: XP Pro firewall locked.
Hi Mark,
I don't really think it is the firewall either but I thought it would be
easy to rule out and get on with tracking down the real reason I can't
access the shared printers. How naive was I? I now have an intriguing poser
and my original problem remains.

I'll read your filesharing link and see if it sheds any light or prompts any
lines of investigation.
