XP Service Pack 3 CRASH
Hi

Wonder if someone could advise please

yesterday this computer was well due a format and re-install
of win XP

this was all done correctly --all ok so far

windows update went straight after service pack 3 update
set it off all seemed to go ok until its restart computer time

boot up stopped about half way thru and then auto restarted boot up
this kept happening in a continuos loop effect

managed to start in safe mode and used system restore
to get back in hence why i am able to write this

clearly something is amiss
question is what

cheers

Susan K.

Same thing is happening to me, twice. I was told you can install SP3 from
SAFE mode. Haven't tried that yet. I'm a bit afraid to try it again.

Re: XP Service Pack 3 CRASH

Hi. Just happened to me too. We could go see what information Microsoft
is offering in their forums, OR we could just do what we did when I
worked in tech support for Dell and a new update was released (example:
The problems with IE7 when it was released) We would say, "uninstall the
application and wait for Microsoft to release a more stable version". I
guess part of the release process is unleashing it on the public then
confronting issues as they come up. I did the same as you guys>SAFE
MODE> SYSTEM RESTORE and taht's where I'll stay for now. I'm going to
wait another month or so before I install SP3 (if I do at all!) I dont
want the anxiety of data loss again!

Re: XP Service Pack 3 CRASH
Samething happened to me except after my format it tells me the recovery cds
are not supported by my pc? Anyone got any ideas how I can get it to accept
my recovery cds? I even tried a brand new Hard drive but same thing happens.

RE: XP Service Pack 3 CRASH
Sorry, I can't help, but after SP3 installs, my computer HP with Media
Edition crashes on restart, blue error screen. I have to start safe mode and
restore to prior state. I've tried it 3 times, same problem. Somebody
somewhere must be working on how to solve this.

Re: XP Service Pack 3 CRASH

I've had the same problem, repeatedly.

All I am trying to do is a simple "windows update" from Internet
Explorer. I like to do these every 3 months or so to keep my computer
updated. This XP Service Pack 3 shows to be a "critical update" that my
machine must have apparently.. The last 6 months, every time I try -
when it goes to restart, it won't boot - UNLESS I boot up in safe mode.
When I get into safe mode, I do a system restore to the previous point,
and my machine boots up normally.

So, with me, it's every time I try to do "Windows Update." and I do
this in auto mode, it automatically selects
Maybe what I should do is OMIT the Service Pack 3 - get the other
"critical updates" except Service Pack 3.
Any feedback on this?
Any one have any suggestions?

Thanks for any response..

Re: XP Service Pack 3 CRASH
You really should upgrade to SP3. There is free unlimited tech support
for SP3 installation issues from Microsoft available via chat, email, or
telephone. To find a link to that support have a look at the links in
the following page.

<http://www.rayslinks.com/Windows%20XP%20SP3%20installation.html>

There are many links there specific to installing SP3 so have a read and
get up to speed. 8-)

Above is the link for free MS XP SP3 Support.

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/322389

And above is all info re XP SP3.
That tells you the prep work re earlier Service Packs req'd, etc, and there
is a download link for the Standalone version, about 1/2 way down the page.
