no audio devices listed
I had the standard issues with downgrading to XP from Vista with sound and
the realtek HD drivers. I finally got those installed and resolved the
conflicts in my device manager. Everything seems to be working just fine,
except I have no sound and no audio devices listed. Not under Sound or the
Device manger. I don't know what to do anymore. There are no further
updates for me to get, so I am thinking that somewhere I missed a driver that
isn't important enough to tell me it's missing. Can someone help?

Re: no audio devices listed
No listing in devmgmt means the device is not connected at all, not that the
driver is bad. If Windows does not see the sound device, it's disconnected
or broken.

Re: no audio devices listed
Yeah, I thought so too. But the speakers are fine, working well on a
different machine. I unplugged and then plugged them back in...but even if
they didn't work, shouldn't they be listed?

Re: no audio devices listed
Speakers don't really ever show in device manager. The sound device does
that. You are saying you don't see the sound device. If not, it's
disconnected, or broken.

fine, BUT in Control Panel, the multimedia says I have no sound card

Is it an on-board sound card (ie incorporated on the motherboard)? If so is
it activated in the BIOS of your machine?

Click start and type:
DXDIAG
Running the DirectX diagnostic may tell you something.

Re: no audio devices listed
Everything is fine, except the DirectSound section. Says no driver. Sound tab
shows trouble, but the Music tab does not. The newest DirectX is installed
and all drivers are up to date.
