Windows XP slow logging on
I have a laptop that is running Windows XP Pro SP2. It has been running just
fine. The user had someone install an external hard drive. Ever since then
when she hits ctrl/alt/del and logs in to our domain it takes about 4 to 5
minutes to get a desktop. Once that is up everything then seems OK. Any
ideas?

Thanks in advance

Re: Windows XP slow logging on
The external drive is having controller trouble. Probably the USB Root Hub
drivers, and they should be refreshed.

Thank you for your help. How do I go about refreshing the USB Root Hub
drivers?

Re: Windows XP slow logging on
Go to Start/Run, and type DEVMGMT.MSC , highlight the USB Root Hub device(s)
, Action menu, "Uninstall", (do Not put a check in 'delete driver") then
Action menu, "scan for hardware changes", to find the device drivers again
automatically.
