SERIOUS PROBLEM WITH VIRUS (?) XP SECUIRITY CENTER

Please HELP!!!! I have a LAPTOP COMPAQ PRESARIO V4125CL running
WINDOWS XP. Since last sunday all of a sudden a virus under the name:
XP ANTIVIRUS 2008 SYSTEM SCAN emmbeded in a program: XP ANTIVIRUS
PROTECTION is popping up constantly saying that in my PC has been
found 65 infections. It says that in order to remove them I have to
buy a LICENSE. This VIRUS is also found in CONTROL PANEL already under
a second ICON. Please advice me how to REMOVE THIS. I try to run the
SYSTEM RESTORE but this function does not finish the restauration.
What can I do? PLEASE HELP ME!!!!!!!

You'll be glad to know it is NOT a virus!

However, it is malware of the fake anti malware utility type. Motive -- money.


1. Download and execute HiJack This! (HJT)

2. Disable Notepad's word wrap:
In Notepad.exe; Format --> uncheck; "Word wrap"

3. Download/run Deckard's System Scanner:

4. Save the scan results (Main.txt and Extra.txt)

5. And then post the contents of Main.txt and Extra.txt in your post in one of the below
expert forums...

You could download & install AVG Free, it now has a virus & spyware scanner.
Run a full scan after you have updated it with the latest definition files
and see if that clears your problems. After that if you still have issues
then run hijackthis as suggested in a previous post.

I don'r know where to go to locate the WORD WRAP in NOTEPAD. Will
FORMATTING THE DISK will be easier? Thanks!!

David is referring to the menu item "format" from there you can see "Word
Wrap" has a tick next to it, select "word wrap" and the tick will be
removed.
Did you try the AVG Free scanner.??
If you want to format the hard drive and reinstall everything that will
clear the virus/spyware problems. Just be sure you have saved all your
important files/emails/favourites.
