Processes (usually running explorer.exe) consuming 100% CPU time
My computer frequently gets into a situation where a process locks up the
system by running away with the CPU. The process usually shows up in Task
Manager running explorer.exe, though sometimes it's iexplore.exe or the login
program.

When this happens I can't kill the process with Task Manager or Process
Explorer. It's also not possible to logout at this point. The only solution
is to do a hard power down.

There doesn't seem to be any particular pattern to what triggers the runaway
process, though the situation seems to occur frequently during user login.
Sometimes we never get past the screen where we click on the user name to
start the login.

Any ideas?

Re: Processes (usually running explorer.exe) consuming 100% CPU time
Explorer.exe is a Parent. You need to discover which child is
misbehaving. In Process Explorer click on the plus + sign before
explorer.exe. You will see the children inst immediately beneath
explorrer.exe. Currently there are 13 children on my computer. Right
click on the problematic child process abd let us know the Command line
on the Image tab.

Hope this helps.

Do you really want to trust someone that was banned from posting
directly to Microsoft Usenet servers, someone that has posted links to
pornographic materials on HIS WEBSITE, who's website is in the MVP HOST

Chris, you've been posting my name in EVERY ONE OF YOUR POSTS ALL OVER
USENET, if you don't want to see me reply then stop posting my name in
your posts - it's that simple. Take my name out of your posts and I'll
stop replying to them. It's your choice, keep harassing me in every post
and I'll keep replying to defend my name.

Re: Processes (usually running explorer.exe) consuming 100% CPU ti
I've looked at Process Explorer when the problem has been occurring, and if
I'm remembering correctly, the line that actually showed explorer.exe as the
running image was the one running away. But I don't remember exactly. I
will look next time the problem occurs.
