It is not recognizing the hard drive or DVD controller. Sata especially
needs drivers provided.

Re: Windows For Legacy PC's (WinFLP)

have you done virus/spyware cleanup? My roommate's laptop was having
issues with certain programs doing that. I did a sweep with Spyware
Doctor, which you can get a good free version of, and found a bunch of
infections. removed them, and things worked fine afterwards.

And in the future, when you post, try to give more info. your initial
post was too vague, which is why you got such a limited response. You
might as well have said "I'm having a problem with windows XP. anyone
know what's wrong?" the more detailed you can be the better chance
someone can help.

Since 1987 when Windows came out. It needs drivers to access everything,
even harddrives. The only time you don't need a driver for your harddrive
is when its' controlled directly by the NorthBridge and can be controlled
by the BIOS. Many systems prior to 2007 have SATA controllers and secondary
ATA controllers as a device hooked into the Northbridge, meaning it is not
accessed directly by the BIOS. In that case you need a driver or Windows
cannot access any drives connected to the system on those ports.
