cannot open excel files from windows explorer

I have windows xp pro. I cannot open excel files from windows explorer. When
I click on the filename, only the menu bars from excel appear. This also
happens sometimes when I try to open an excel file attached to an email
message.

I take it you have the whole Office suite installed, does this same
trouble happen with Word and/or PP files as well?

I have the office suite and I can open word files. It only happens with
excel. Thanks for your help.
