insert a disk in drive G: Windows XP Pro, haven't installed any new

Re: new CD drive G: appears in explorer
drive icon only shows in windows explorer, the two hard drives and two
dvd/cd drives are all that show up in device manager.

Open My Computer/ Control Panel/ Administrative Tools/ Computer Management/ Device Manager.

In device manager right click on the removable device for the unused slot,
click on disable (NOT uninstall). That should prevent that slot being
reported as an available disk letter.
