Would someone please advise me?
I seem to have this (hidden file) virus on my PC and I would like to know
how to delete it. I get a popup stating that "access is denied". I can see a
faded folder "System Volume Information" on my C drive, but not the
contents. Can I do this from the PC System files register?

Thanks!

This folder is where your Restore Points are located.
You do not want try to delete this folder or it's contents!

What is the name of the file? What makes you think it's a virus?

If what you have given is the entire story - then you have nothing to worry
about. That folder is created by Windows XP for the System Restore Points.
It is supposed to be there and normally - you do not have access to go into
that folder via explorer.

Thanks all! I have an antivirus program "Bit Defender" that may being seeing
this file as a virus. It say that the Volume Information folder contains an
embedded exe file named "Adware Spyclean.K" that is a virus. I now think it
may be a false alarm...at least I hope so.

I see.

Removing old restore points is a good idea, then. However, there is a
proper way to do it!
You may do one of the following:

1. Run Disk Cleanup (Start | All Programs | Accessories | System Tools
| Disk Cleanup | More Options) and click the "Clean up" button in the
System Restore section. This removes every restore point except the most
recent, or

2. Disable, then re-enable System Restore. (Right-click My Computer and
select Properties, then select System Restore tab.)

HTH.

That folder contains restore points, and a virus in a restore point is
completely innocuous *unless* you restore from that restore point.

The only way to remove the virus is to turn off System Restore, then
turn it back on, but that will delete *all* your restore points, not
just the infected one(s). Alternatively you can just wait for the
infected point(s) to fall of the end of the chain--a maximum of 90
days.

On the other hand, you need to consider the question of how the virus
got there. It got there because your computer was infected elsewhere,
and went into the restore point while it was infected. So unless
you've already removed the virus from outside of the restore point,
you can't have a virus that's *only* in a restore point.

Re: Would someone please advise me?
no, it may not be a
false alarm if that
alarm is saying you
have an infection.

you need to clean
your system by
deleting "all" the
restore points at
this time and them
do a thorough scan
of "all" your files
before creating a
new restore point.
