Cannot use IE or Firefox to get to certain sites
This is a new and frustrating problem. Although I can get to Google (as an
example) once I type in the search terms it just hangs. I see a waiting to
connect message but it starts and simply hangs there. I am sure it is neither
browser but something in my settings in Windows. I tried turning off indexing
in the profiles but it simply reverts when I check them again. Indexing
service was disabled in services but something is doing this and I cannot
figure out how to stop it. Help greatly appreciated as I want to be able to
access Yahoo, Google and some other sites. Thanks.

Google search is not indexed. You probably have some problem in the IE
cache. Go to IE, Tools menu, "Delete Browser History"
It's also possible the %TEMP% folder is corrupt. I would run cleanmgr.exe.

Sorry but no help although I did it anyway and appreciate your trying. As I
said, the problem also exists in Firefox. There is something wrong with
Windows settings.

Re: Cannot use IE or Firefox to get to certain sites

I was running everything under the sun. LOL. I have found the problem. Just
walked right past Norton which is now abandoned since it did no good. I used
several virus/spyware hunters such as AVG, Norton, Windows Defender and
Kaparsky (much too difficult and hoggish for me). Then in a flash of
brilliance I tried Trojan Remover. There sat Virtumondo or however it is
spelled. It was in six different key registries (Norton failed to pick up
four of them) and really was a misery. Problem now solved although I find
this very odd behavior for a trojan to block only certain sites. Thanks for
attempting a fix though.
