Bios Update
I'm trying to upgrade the BIOS on my laptop, I've downloaded all the updates
but cant seem to install them. I know you have to reinstall the OS but do I
choose to repair or install the OS. Its running XP pro and the drivers are
installed on a CD-ROM and on the hard drive.
Any help would be great

What?

In order to upgrade the BIOS on any system - you should not have to
"reinstall the OS"... Where did you get that?

Or - have you mispoken and "upgrade the BIOS on my laptop" means that you
are replacing some hardware component? (Unusual - given you said laptop -
but...)

Please give the make/model of the laptop.

Re: Bios Update
Why are you trying to upgrade the BIOS--what is wrong with the existing
BIOS?

A BIOS update and a system update are not related as far as I know. Instead
of telling what you think is wrong, give information about your laptop, the
BIOS version, the new BIOS version and what happens when you try to install
the update.

You shouldn't have any need to reinstall the OS after a successful BIOS
update and a BIOS update would only be one file. Also, a BIOS update Should NOT
be done unless the update includes a specific fix for a specific issue
pertaining to the BIOS. If a BIOS update is required to fix a specific issue,
the support site from where the update is acquired should have instructions on
exactly how the update is to be performed. If instructions are not included on
exactly how to perform the BIOS update, the update Should NOT be attempted by
anyone that is unaware of the consequences if the update fails for any reason.

Without knowing details about your systems components and/or the purpose for
your need to update the BIOS, it would be assisted suicide to offer any
suggestion other than Don't Do It.

Re: Bios Update
Reading your post it appears to me that you are someone who doesn't have the
necessary experience or wherewithal to attempt a bios update - sorry

RE: Bios Update
Most BIOS updates get installed by installing the BIOS update onto a
MS-DOS formatted floppy disk, find the needed text if needed to start the
update when the pc boots to the floppy or designated drive.Intel has BIOS
updates that start on xp desktop,no need to copy it to a floppy or cd,it runs
itself..Otherwise,follow details from the pc mfg web site, sometimes move all
the files to empty folder "my music,or pictures",once done,go to
edit,select all,
move all to floppy or cd,set pc to boot to it..Also,a BIOS update is worth
the
trouble "they dont make updates for nothing".. Youre OS is left intact
