Slow starting programs and IE7 after installing updates?
We have a network with a lot of computers and now i have problems with a few
that are very slow especcialy with Internet explorer. I have uninstalled IE
ans the latest updates from 12-6-2008 butt still the same problem. I also
looked for strange processes but in the task manager or with proccesxp i
can;t see anything strange. I am now uninstalling XP sp3 to see if the
problem is solvend. Unfortunaly we disabled system restore in the policy
cause that almost always solves the problem.
Anyone got any ideas to look?
(KB950759,kb950760,kb950762,kb951376,kb951476,kb95 1698 are uninstalled)

Re: Slow starting programs and IE7 after installing updates?

What shows up in Event Viewer?
Please post copies of all Error and Warning Reports appearing in the
System and Application logs in Event Viewer relating to the last boot in
normal mode . No Information Reports or Duplicates please. Indicate
which also appear in a previous boot.
You can access Event Viewer by selecting Start, Control Panel,
Administrative Tools, and Event Viewer.
HOW TO: View and Manage Event Logs in Event Viewer in Windows XP
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/308427/en-us
A tip for posting copies of Error Reports! Run Event Viewer and double
click on the error you want to copy. In the window, which appears is a
button resembling two pages. Click the button and close Event
Viewer. Now start your message (email) and do a paste into the body of
the message. Make sure this is the first paste after exiting from
Event Viewer.
Are there any yellow question marks in Device Manager? Right click on
the My Computer icon on your Desktop and select Properties,
Hardware,Device Manager. If yes what is the Device Error code?
Try Start, Run, type "sigverif.exe" without quotes and hit OK. What
drivers are listed as unsigned? Disregard those which are not checked.
Do you leave the computer on 24/7?
I would be interested in seeing a Disk Defragmenter report. Open Disk
Defragmenter and click on Analyse. Select View Report and
click on Save As and Save. Now find VolumeC.txt in your My Documents
Folder and post a copy. Do this before running Disk Defragmenter as it
is more informative.

Hope this helps.

Re: Slow starting programs and IE7 after installing updates?
As that help utility would have told you, the IE cache, and TEMP files can
slow performance, as can added Ad-ons. CleanMGR.exe, and using tools menu,
Manage Add-ons could help. There is also the "Software Explorer" in Windows
Defender.

Re: Slow starting programs and IE7 after installing updates?
If Software Explorer is not showing you any trash added to IE by something,
your best bet for slow connection is the connection itself. I would use a
slow machine to log on to the router setup (default gateway address), simply
as a performance check.
If this is it, I have found changing the Speed of the Ethernet card in the
Device Manager properties to the lowest setting (10 mbps half duplex) will
get the connection going. A better Ethernet driver is the the solution
there.
