0x0000008e error message

I have a Sony Vaio Laptop ( I don't know anything more than that other
than it is less than 2 years old) and I booted it up today and then it
went to the blue error shutdown screen with this stop code:

0x0000008e (0x00000005, 0x84cf0731, 0xAA350c3c, 0x00000000)

What can I do to fix this problem? Safe mode works for me but I don't
know where to go from there...or even if that is where I start?

The message changed from the first time I posted...it now has a
different one but I don't have it handy right now. Any advice?

Re: 0x0000008e error message

If you can consistently access in Safe this tends to point to a software
driver which loads in normal mode but not safe mode.

Background information on Stop Error message 0x8E
http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms794023.aspx

0x0000008E: KERNEL_MODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED
A kernel mode program generated an exception which the error handler
didn't catch. These are nearly always hardware compatibility issues
(which sometimes means a driver issue or a need for a BIOS upgrade).

Are there any yellow question marks in Device Manager? Right click on
the My Computer icon on your Desktop and select Properties,
Hardware,Device Manager. If yes what is the Device Error code?

Try Start, Run, type "sigverif.exe" without quotes and hit OK. What
drivers are listed as unsigned? Disregard those which are not checked.

Remove any dust bunnies from inside the computer casing using an Air
Duster and check all fans are running.

Check the hard drive for bad sectors by running chkdsk /f /r

You need to be aware that running chkdsk can take hours

Faulty RAM. You might test your RAM memory
