Cannot Access Flash drives
Win XP Home Ed SP-2
When I insert a USB Flash Drive, it is recognized and assigned a Drive
Letter.
however when I try to access (open) it I get the message

"This Operation Has Been Cancelled Due to Restrictions in Effect on This
Computer. Please contact your system administrator"

I have tried looking at every check box that I can find to no avail.
This is something that has happened after one of the "updates"
Can anyone help??
Thanks

Mark

Sounds like you need Group Policy Editor. It has settings for locking
down all kinds of things in Windows. If you have Windows XP Pro you
already have GPEdit which is the Group Policy Editor.

If you have Windows XP Home you will need to download and install GPEdit
from here:

http://files.filefront.com/GPEdit+Fi.../fileinfo.html

This is a .zip file download, and the instructions for installing GPEdit
are in the GPEdit folder within the .zip file in a file called "Read
This.txt".

Note that part of the installation process involves registering .dll
files, and one of the files will fail registration, however GPEdit will
run just fine nonetheless.

Once installed, just go to Start, Run and type in GPEdit to start the
Group Policy Editor, from there you will have to look for a setting that
controls access to the USB drives.

Re: Cannot Access Flash drives
Well, did what Ray suggested, but cannot find anything that relates to usb.

Again what the problem is, when I plug in a usb drive the computer
recognizes it, but when I try to access any of the files on it, it burps,
giving me the above error message.

If no one here can help, can you point me to a group that can.
This is very frustrating!' Thanks
Mark
