Non destructive restore effort

My Gateway locked up at the XP Wave screen last month. I performed the non
destructive restore, got the backup, and got back in business. Three problems
remain. The machine runs slowly, the standby button is grayed out, and the
audio start up "music" is warbled. I have a backup drive (L). I'm willing to
reboot from the 5 dics I made when I bought the machine, or do the
destructive restore from safe mode. Any suggestions?
