Forcing XP to put PCI Ethernet Card on IRQ 11
On my home PC, when XP puts my Cisco Ethernet PCI card on IRQ 11, all
is fine. But when it occasionally puts it on IRQ 4, the card comes up
with FF-FF-FF etc in its hardware addressess. It I manually change the
card "type" at that point (from autosense to 100 duplex or vice versa
depending on what it was set to) the correct hardware address is
indicated and the card works fine (except for the added posssibility
of a conflict with the devices that share IRQ 4.
Is there a way to force XP to always use IRQ 11 for the Ethernet card?
Thanks.

Re: Forcing XP to put PCI Ethernet Card on IRQ 11
Try moving the card to a different PCI slot.

Re: Forcing XP to put PCI Ethernet Card on IRQ 11
I tried all the slots and XP still insists on using IRQ 4 at times.

There isn't much that you are going to be able to do about it unless you
want to reinstall Windows with a Standard HAL. Did you trying
reinstalling the drivers?

Re: Forcing XP to put PCI Ethernet Card on IRQ 11
No, I never tried reinstalling the drivers. I was considering
starting in safe mode and removing all references to the ethernet card
in Device Manager, then restarting normally and having Windows detect
the card and install the drivers.
I'm not sure if that would solve the problem or make it worse.

Re: Forcing XP to put PCI Ethernet Card on IRQ 11
Make sure that you have no ghosted network adapters:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/269155
If it still gives you problem try uninstalling and reinstalling the adapter.
