Loses ``allow network users to change my files''
I check file sharing ``allow network users to
change my files'' but soon they are unable to do
so (soon means a few hours).

Yet the option is still checked.

I can fix it by unchecking the option and checking
it again, and it's good for another few hours
agasin.

XP Home.

Is there some impermanent option I'm missing?

From http://www.velocityreviews.com/forum...onsistent.html

Without knowing what version of Windows you are running or where the
folder is located on the laptop, I'm just guessing. You should post
back with more details. In the meantime, it sounds like either:

1. You have the permissions on the parent folder set to not be
inherited
by child files/folders; or

2. The folder is in your My Documents folder. XP Home does not let you
share the My Documents folder (or Program Files folder) but you can
share individual folders inside them. If this is what you are doing,
then
that would explain why adding a new file/folder in the parent folder
doesn't automatically have sharing enabled. If this is the case, then
put
your parent folder and contents in the Shared Documents folder
instead.

Windows XP Home on both machines. The folder in question is C:/cygwin/tmp
part of the default Cygwin setup. Only one machine exhibits this problem.

An inconsistency doesn't seem possible, since having removed and rechecked
the write permission box, it works again for a while.

It acts as if it expires after some time limit, even though remaining checked.

Re: Loses ``allow network users to change my files''
I don't have XP Home to test, so bear that in mind.

This is what my research has turned up: You need to disable Simple
File Sharing: http://www.wikihow.com/Disable-Simpl...P-Home-Edition

Then, use the security tab to take ownership of the files and folders
in that subtree. Some people say you need to reboot back into safe
mode, others say you can just do this from here, but enable the
sharing with option checked logged in as Administrator in Safe Mode.
When you logon to the normal boot, the option should stick.

To see Security Tab in XP Home, run this and reboot:
ftp://ftp.microsoft.com/bussys/winnt...CM/SCESP4I.EXE

Hope this works for you.
