WinFAX Pro trouble with service pack 3
I have used WinFAX Pro 10.0 for many years now.
After I installed service pack 3 WinFax will not allow me to change settings
such as area code, phone number. When I try to edit these items a general
fault error pops up.

Any ideas?

WinFax is no longer offered or supported by Symantec.

Thanks,
Scott

The last sentence - more than anything else - means you may be out of luck.
It may be time to find a different computer fax application - one that is
still worked on and supported by the company that sells it.

Are you running the latest version of WinFax?

I beleive that is 10.04...
http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT...%2C1#_Section4

Which leads you to:
ftp://ftp.symantec.com/public/englis...nfax_10.04.zip

You might try updating WinFax to see if it helps - although it won't have
fixes for SP3 changes.

The reason I ask about your exact version:
http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT...hm&lg=en&ct=us

10.00 was not supported in Windows XP. Nor was 10.01. Does not mean they
would not have worked - but could mean you might (sooner or later) run into
issues.

Re: WinFAX Pro trouble with service pack 3
No, I would have to purchase that update as the free update from Symantec
10.04 only updates 10.03
I am afraid to purchase the new version as it might have same issue.

Do you have any suggestions on a fax program? I really did like WinFax, so
something close to it would be great.

Thanks for the quick reply,
Scott

Re: WinFAX Pro trouble with service pack 3
my suggestion is to
simply uninstall sp3
and be happy again.

in the interim i would
nag technical support
for winfax and have
them provide a patch
or workaround.

there position would
be different if you were
upgrading and not updating
the o.s.

Re: WinFAX Pro trouble with service pack 3
Scott

I am a Winfax Pro user with Windows XP SP3. Is your problem with the
address book or configuring Winfax Pro?

On my copy I have some features that do not work as they should. I
think these are just the result of changes to Windows XP and not just
SP3. I am having to work around them.

There is a dedicated Winfax Pro forum here:
http://www.getfaxing.com/cgi-bin/ib315/ikonboard.cgi

Hope this helps.

Re: WinFAX Pro trouble with service pack 3
I also have used Winfax 10.01 for years and had to update to 10.03 to have
everything work even before updating to SP3. Suggest updating since I have
not found any product that comes close to Winfax Pro.

The solution is here:

http://www.getfaxing.com/support.htm click on the support links there, one
of them is for this problem.

Re: WinFAX Pro trouble with service pack 3
Uh huh.

At $30 a year he's better off finding a XP compatible than a workaround
[which may or may not work] on a product that is considered dead....

Re: WinFAX Pro trouble with service pack 3
Doesm't solve the problem or anything. Come 18 months from now, when
Microsoft kills off any security updates for SP2, what does he do? He won't
be too happy....

I think he knew that Win XP may not be 100% compatible with WinFax.

I don't think Symantec even has tech support for WinFax [amybe except paid
support] as it's a dead product. If there is support, he'll have to pay for
it, which ain't worth it.
