lost operating system
Due to multiple problems with compaq computer did a recovery.
recovery hung up and somehow lost operating system on computer. When I boot
off quick restore cd it starts and then hangs up (62% entire process/82%
copy data) When I boot off recovery cd it starts up but then goes to
screen: remove all cds and turn off system. When I do a regular boot I get
message that there is no operating system on any devices.

I contact hp and they said they do not have any recovery cds for this model
(8000 series) That I would have to go out and buy windows xp home.

Are there any other solutions? Will this fix the problem? Can I install
vista instead? I have XP media for my HP notebook...would this work?

I now have a useless desktop.

Re: lost operating system
Buy an inexpensive new computer. It's going to be your cheap solution. I've
seen a few out there for < 400.

Re: lost operating system
Your PC has, obviously a problem, buying any software is not going to cure
it
And no your HP disks wont work
