"we apologize for the inconvience..."
Hey ,
Im having a problem starting windows xp. When i turned on the computer
yesterday it said windows did not start so I tried all of the options for
restart none worked. I opened the f8 menu and tried all of those options,
again nothing but I used the disable auto restart option to get the stop
error unmountable_boot_volume stopxooooooED
(ox8126BDCo,oxCoooooo6,oxoooooooo,oxoooooooo). We just had a new hard drive
installed about two months ago and it has been running fine till yesterday.
The computer is a touch screen that runs a tube bender, but I have isolated
the computer from the bender to try a fix. this site has been a big help so
for and any help would be great and really keep my bosses happy. thanks

Does the HDD detected in the BIOS?
Any new hardware/software installed, can you start in Last Good known
Configuration?
Try to test the HDD health by using the Diagnostic tools from the HDD
manufacturer and run a test or if your Machine has a recovery to the
manufacturer settings try this and run a hardware test.

Unmountable Boot Volume
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/555302

Background information on Stop error code
http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms797142.aspx

0x000000ED: UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME
The kernel mode I/O subsystem attempted to mount the boot volume and it
failed. This error also might occur during an upgrade to Win XP on
systems that use higher throughput ATA disks or controllers with
incorrect cabling. In some cases, your system might appear to work
normally after you restart.

What is your Windows XP CD as it is described on the face of the CD?

What is your computer make and model? How old is it?
