Can't burn to CD-RW
Our office is running Windows XP Pro on a Dell Computer. We recently
reformatted the hard drive & since doing so I am unable to burn files to a
CD-RW. I can burn just fine to a CD-R, but not -RW. Is there a setting I'm
missing somewhere. We have tried replacing the drive, but it didn't make any
difference. We were able to burn directly to the CD-RW previous to the
reformat. When opening the files on the CD-RW I get the message that the
files are write-protected (although they weren't saved that way). When I try
to burn to the disk I get a message that the disk is either full or somehow
damaged (even though it works in other machines). I can write to the CD-RWs
in another machine, but not this one. HELP!

Re: Can't burn to CD-RW
What program are you using to write to the CD, whether R or RW.
Any file on a CD will be read only as far as I know.
If the CD is written in a single session then it will appear full if you try
to write to it again. (you need to use multi session)
Do you have some other software installed on the other PCs perhaps that
allows the disk to stay open.

Try this:
Click 'My Computer', right-click CD drive, click 'Properties', under
Recording' tab [uncheck] 'Enable CD recording on this drive', click the
'Apply' button. Then [check] 'Enable CD recording on this drive', click the
'Apply' and 'OK' button.

Good luck

Re: Can't burn to CD-RW
I'm trying to burn using Windows, no other program as yet. If I can't get
windows to do it, or find an answer, then I'll try another program. These
disks were originally burned with windows & I've been able to add to them
before we reformatted.

Re: Can't burn to CD-RW
Have you applied service packs & updates.? Check the update site to see if
it offers any updates for burning CDs, or check Dells website.
I'm just thinking of things to check I'm not sure there will be anything for
definite.
