install new harddrive
I have a 3 year old pc running win xp.I want to add a new bigger hard
drive. After I install it can I just run the backup disk I made when I first
got it?Since I made the disk I have added a new graphics card. What will I
have to do in this case?Any advice on the steps I will have to follow will be
appreciated.

Re: install new harddrive
Are you planning to replace the drive you have now with the new one? If
yes, do you have a WinXP CD to reinstall the
OS? If not do you have a image of the OS on the backup disk you made?
You will have to reinstall the graphic driver
for the new graphic card you added. No big deal.

Re: install new harddrive
my suggestion would be
to add your new harddrive
as a slave drive and leave
the one you have now as
the master.

then with your windows cd
install windows onto the
slave drive.

the above will create
a dual boot system, that
will allow you to boot
either to the windows on
the master or your new
windows.

afterwards, you can then
simply copy over your
personal files from one
drive to the other - as one
example of the benefits.

another advantage by continuing
to use your old but functional
drive is that 1) you don't have
to dispose of it and 2) it will
serve as a backup with a fully
operational system.
