HP Printer Installation Issue
Any clues to my problem from those more gifted than me- my technical skills
are so so?

My printer use to work but I unstalled the software and now I can't get it
working again
My HP Photosmart 2575 printer wont install on my pc. It's failing at the
point where the pc is connected to the printer - the pc won't recognise the
printer is connected. Power is on and USB is plugged in.

I've chatted with HP online technicians - they say its a Windows Installer
Issue
- and asked mt to uninstall it/reinstall it. However, I have v3.1 and
thought this might mess up every other application. I'd like some community
ideas first.

The error message on the istall includes phrases like;

MsIOpenPackage()failed with this installation package. Contact the
application vendor to verify this is a valid Windows Installer Package
GetUpgarde Code failed with this installtion package. Contact the
application vendor to verify this is a valid Windows Installer Package
" MSIInstal()failed with 1620 for MSI New Copy

Any suggestion on where the problem might be and what I should do

Re: HP Printer Installation Issue
John, the Installer may be corrupt. Check here for download. Remove
Installer and install ver2.

Re: HP Printer Installation Issue
hi rich.
thankyou
i reinstalled the Installer. The printer software install almost worked (the
install wizard confirmed pc and printer were connected - which hadn't
happened before everything seemed fine)...but the install failed a few
minutes later.

i trid a 2nd install but this time the pc and printer failed to connect and
the install was rejected.. The error reprt still has the same reasons as
before.

Any more suggestions?

Where did you get the printer installation software/driver from, a CD
included with the printer or from the HP website? Sometimes they upgrade the
printer driver and so it may be worthwhile to check : http://www.hp.com .
What brand of PC are you using, is it HP also?
When you install the printer software, do not plug in the printer until
after shutting down the computer. Unplug all other USB devices as well until
you get a clean install of the printer software. Then boot up and it should
recognize the printer and correct driver.

RE: HP Printer Installation Issue
Its basic when installing HP printers not to connect the USB cable to the
computer until you are prompted to do so. You may have overlooked that.
Install the software first then connect the printer when you are prompted to
do so.
