Need help with Service Control Manager
I'm looking at the System log with Event Viewer. There are over 2700
entries for Service Control Manager in the log. In fact there are so
many that the log only has entries for the last hour or so.

All entries are event 7035 or 7036. There are no errors, but clearly
something is going on with SCM to be running almost constantly.

I'd appreciate some help.

thanks

Nothing to worry about. All systems will show those events.

It's not normal for my system. In the past I was able to see the
System log for several days. Now because there are so many SCM
messages I only see the last hour.

Performance is certainly a big subject, and I hesitate to recommend the use
of log files to narrow the event reporting of your system, but, if
necessary, gaining command of this skill would get you what you want.

Re: Need help with Service Control Manager
I neglected to mention that the Event Viewer, View menu has a 'filter' item
that would do most of what you need. You can change the 'maximum log size'
to capture more.

That is not normal. It is normal to see a number of 7035/7036 events
logged when the computer is started but these should certainly not
overtake the whole log. When the computer is being used in a normal
fashion these events will show up as services are being started and
stopped, but there again these events should not overwhelm the log.
Take a closer look at the events and see which service is being
repeatedly logged, some buggy software is certainly causing this, maybe
your AV software?

Generally only Warning or Error Reports are of interest. Post 3 examples
and we will see what they are saying.

Event ID: 7035 is simply teling you the named service has started or
stopped:
http://www.eventid.net/display.asp?e...anager&phase=1

Event ID: 7036 is much the same:
http://www.eventid.net/display.asp?e...anager&phase=1

Hope this helps.

Re: Need help with Service Control Manager
Mark

The default log file size is 512 kb. Given that current entries are only
really useful reducing the size to 128 kb makes more sense.

I think I've found the problem. A few days ago I got a new HP All in
One printer. The software for this thing is running all the time. It
needs to be running for some of the features to work correctly but
really does not have to run for me to use the printer. Anyway, I
stopped the program, rebooted and things look normal again.

Thanks everyone for your help.

Thanks Jane for reporting the outcome. Others have recently reporting
the same problem.
