black image background

The little icons before contact names on the main screen of messenger and the
any other images such as tab images and rotating login image have black
backgrounds. Has anyone seen this problem? This is driving me crazy. I am
running XP SP3, does this on messenger versions 6-8, and yes I do have latest
video drivers. This has not always occured, just suddenly started. Any help
appreciated. Thanks.
