Re: Removing Windows Messenger 5.1
Jonathan, I tried the steps for removing the Windows Messenger 5.1 and get
the message that it can only be used to remove installed products. So I went
back through the installation again. Then tried the remove steps and get the
same message. I wanted to install a previous version to see if that might
clear my problem. You may can help me with this. I recently installed a
Linksys WRT54G router. Since then Windows Messenger signs me off and back on
about every 15 to 30 minutes. Linksys Support was no help. It doesn't happen
if I remove the router. Thanks for any help.

Re: Removing Windows Messenger 5.1
Greetings,
What's mentioned here is for an earlier version (note the post is from 2004).
You can uninstall it with this instead:
msiexec /x {A44413DC-17D5-4F0B-A128-8B590B20323C}
In most cases, throwing away Windows Messenger and using Windows Live Messenger
( http://get.live.com/messenger/overview) will solve the issue you're experiencing however.

Re: Removing Windows Messenger 5.1
Will Windows Live Messenger allow me to still continue to communicate with my
contacts on Windows Messenger and vice-versa? Will it export my current
contact list over to Windows Live Messenger? I don't need a lot of fancy
features, just a simple way to communicate with other co-workers.

Re: Removing Windows Messenger 5.1
Hi,
As long as you're just using the public .NET Messenger service (not Exchange IM or SIP), all
you have to do is log into the other client. It's exactly the same and requires no work on
your part.
