codec required
I am trying to import an mpeg2 file into WMM. I choose Import into
Collections, choose my mpeg2 file and receive the message,

"File cannot be imported because the codec required to play the file is not
installed on your computer." Where and how do I get the codec so I can import
the file into WMM?

FYI - The mpeg2 file was transferred from a Sony Handycam to my PC via USB
if that makes any difference.

Thank you.

Bob

If the HandyCam is a MiniDV type with the tapes...
you might be able to import into Movie Maker
if you connect via IEEE-1394 FireWire / i.LINK

See the followign article:

And...maybe the following article would be worth
a look:

Converting MPEG-2 Files for Importing

or.....

Also...the following converter may be worth a try:

(FWIW...it's always a good idea to create a System
Restore point before installing software or updates)

Format Factory

(FWIW...when installing...you may want to uncheck
all the boxes on the final screen)
