No Preview

When I attempt to 'preview' my movie in the mini-window, or full screen,
nothing happens. The sound does not play, nor does the picture on the screen
change. This is true with both imported movies and pictures, the timeline
remains at the same points, although the 'play' button switches to the
'pause' button.

What are the file types you are using?

when I preview I get no picture but I do get sound. I get not picture in
the preview window with jpegs or vidoe but I can add audio and here when
select play.

This never used to happen, I used to get a picture !!!

Interestingly if I save to "play on my computer" I can view it all properly
with media player (pictures and audio) but this is not helpful for basic
editing.

What are your source file types?
Have you ensured you have the latest version of directX and your graphics
card driver.
Trying turning hardware acceleration down or off.
