cannot import video

When I attempt to import video from .mpg files copied from a Sony camcorder
into Movie Maker 2.1, I get the following error.

An interface has too many methods to fire events from

Windows Movie Maker in Vista Premium imports these files.

How can this be solved?

The files need to be converted to a compatible format.
