Windows convention dictates i can select 1st picture - hold shift - select
last picture (to select many pictures) - right-click - add transition/effect

Is movie maker made by Windows?

==================================
Add your files to the Timeline/Storyboard...

Go to...Storyboard View...

Select at least one frame and go to...
Edit / Select All...

Go to...Video Transitions...or...Video Effects

Right click your choice... and choose...
"Add To Storyboard"

No Movie maker is made by Microsoft (MS) as is Windows. :-)

Transitions are placed between the images not as part of them that is why MS
did not use the normal convention of selecting all or part. Each transition
must be placed individually as far as I can tell. (I normally don't us WMM
but a more powerful, purchased, program that will do what you want.

If you read my reply to the OP you will
find there is a way to add transitions
and /or effects to a batch.

Thanks for the correction and the fix. Still don't use it that much since
my program works easier IMHO and it handles MPG files natively.

You're welcome...

So...tell us the name of the program you prefer.

The program I use most is Uleads Video Studio (currently using both version
9 & 10 between different computers with 4 total licenses.) For transitions
to be applied all I have to do is tell it to use the default transition and
define it. Every image or video I put on the timeline has that default
transition applied to it until I turn the feature off. I also use Roxio's
Video Wave at times on one of my other computers. I also like the ability to
burn DVDs with their included authoring and burning programs. Neither of
these two programs can be classified as high end video editing programs and
are relatively inexpensive as you know.

I have used Adobe's Premier Pro 2 and didn't need all its bells and whistles
(along with the learning curve) as well as Pinnacle Studio and Power
Director which are comparable to my choices, lower cost video editing
software. Still like the two that I use.

The reason I don't use the easier to use WMM most of the time is that my
video cameras and video capture devices all produce MPG video files and I
really like not having to convert them first before using them in the video
editing program. I also find the IEEE1394 (Firewire) capture from the DV
cameras seems more reliable with the non-WMM programs as I have had issues
with WMM not doing a good capture but the other programs did a perfect
capture simply by closing WMM and starting one of the other programs.

Probably more than you asked for but keep up the good work John!

Never even occurred to me to right click the transition itself - Cheers

Thanks for the info...I've seen lots of good
reviews of Ulead products.
