Preview screen goes black HEELLLLLPPPPP!!!
This is making me crazy!!! I thought I had fixed it but no.

When playing a video in preview to break it into pieces, EVERY time
after only a few seconds the preview screen goes black. Audio
continues, but I can't see any preview at all.

If I alt-tab switch to another window that covers the moviemaker
window, then alt-tab switch back, all is good for a few seconds then
it goes black again.

Infiuriating.

I can't believe I am the only person to ever have this problem.

Any suggestions? I have already reinstalled moviemaker.

Running WIn XP Pro
Moviemaker 5.1 (Build 2600.xpsp.080413-2111 : servide Pack 3)

I also have Sonic MyDVD Studio and Nero 8 installed and based on past
experinece I wouldn't be surpirsed if the problem is Sonic. Maybe I
should uninstall it?

Welcome any and all suggestions, especially from anyone who might have
had a similar problem

Open Movie Maker and go to...Tools / Options /
Compatibility tab...and uncheck all the filters.

Let us know if it makes 'any' difference.

Maybe you would like to tell us what else
you tried so we don't have to guess?

Re: Preview screen goes black HEELLLLLPPPPP!!!
I'm having something similar to this problem, however my issue isn't with
Movie Maker itself it's with Media player. I made a sims 2 movie in Movie
maker, and published it and everything. I've done everything written here but
when in media player, I watch my movie. It's ok for the first minute or so
but then it goes black. The audio and effects work fine, it's just the clips.
They are avi clips. My movie maker is 6.0. I've checked the avi decompresser
in compatibility. The movie works great in movie maker but it screws up in
media player. I really dont want to have to rerecord these clips, that would
be a HUGE hastle. But if worse comes to worse...Please, I just need the best
answer possible. I'm getting so frustrated...

It's always best if you begin a new thread
when you have a question.

Video editing is a complex task and I'm
not convinced there are perfect solutions
for every task.

Anyway.....

There are many types of .avi files and the
only one that is fully compatible with Movie
Maker is DV-AVI.

I suspect the answer may be to convert the
..avi clips to .wmv before importing into Movie
Maker.

Here's some info on converting:

How do I convert other video file formats to WMV?

Re: Preview screen goes black HEELLLLLPPPPP!!!
If you solve it, please share. I still have the same problem.

The same clips load and preview just fine in a different (bare bones)
computer, so I am sure it is some kind of software conflict on this
one. I just don't know with what!! Too much crap installed

It seems like some kind of screen refresh issue.

Do you have the same symptom? If you alt-tab switch to another window
that covers the media player window, then alt-tab back does it play
normally for a few seconds then go black again?
