This may not be the right place for this but what the hell...it's a public
newsgroup. As someone who has listened to much live music and has collected
vinyl and cd's for many years, I have tried in vain to get use to
compressed, digitized, computerized music. I have a decent stereo system at
home and I own two ipods as well as other mp3 players. I have imported and
purchased many songs encoded in different formats and bit rates and it
always sounds like something is missing. I suppose that is because it is.
Recently I have started importing music in the AIFF Lossless format and find
that this gets pretty close to sounding like the original recording (with a
good pair of headphones). Of course the files take up a lot of space but I
just synch my player more often and rotate the music. I am not complaining
or preaching but I just wanted to share my thoughts and welcome any
feedback. I am just concerned about what we are loosing to convience and
portability. There is an excellent article in Rolling Stone about this topic
if anyone is interested. Link follows.
