Net adapter 1349

how do i get my computer to recognize the 1349 net adapter? i have contacted
my ISP support and even tho my DSL shows as connected with a correct IP
address, i cannont connect to the internet. the rep. said that the computer
is not recognizing the 1349 adapter, but he didn't know how to tell me how to
fix this. any suggestions, please?? thanks!

The 1394 adapter is associated with your computer's IEEE 1394
(FireWire) port. Unless your DSL modem connects to your computer via
FireWire, the 1394 connection has nothing to do with your Internet
connection problem. All of the DSL modems that I've seen connect
using Ethernet or USB. What is your modem's make and model, and how
does it connect to your computer?

I suggest that you call your ISP again and ask to talk to a different
person.

i have an AT&T 2-wire model # 2701HG-B and am connecting via ethernet. i
have one computer set up via this modem and it works fine. i am trying to
establish a connection with a new computer and had trouble getting an IP
address. the tech. talked me through forcing the connection and i now have a
valid IP address, but still cannot connect. i have disabled all firewalls,
and should just be able to plug in the ethernet cable and make the
connection, but it just won't work.
i did call AT&T back and they said i needed to reinstall Windows XP.. but
another rep. said that wasn't necessary, i just need to get the second
computer to recognize the modem. i'm really confused now!
since it recognizes there is a connection, why can't i get onto the
internet?

The 1349 net adapter is a part of the iLink/Firewire card. Firewire
is main used for high-volume, high speed Video file transfers, usually
between camcorders and PC.

Unless your need to use this for your Internet, I would safely assume
that you could "ignore it."

Is your Ethernet adapter installed correctly in the machine? Considering you
are connecting your modem via Ethernet you can ignore the 1394 connection, as
stated, it is used only for Firewire transmissions.

Could always try a ipconfig /release then /renew on a command line to see if
you can pull an IP that way.
