IE can't connect, but are connected to internet
I'm having a problem with my laptop connecting to the internet. It is
wired into a router, and the rest of the computers are working. It is
connected to the internet - I know this because a program that access
the internet works. But IE won't bring up anything - it says that it
is waiting on the site, and eventually says that it can't display it.
It used to work. The other computers are working OK. I've tried
connecting directly to the modem and through the router, it doesn't
work either way. I've rebooted a couple of times too.

Any ideas of why IE won't work on the laptop, and what I can do to fix
it?

PS, the laptop sees the other computers on the network.

I want it to be able to work with my wired network and wireless
networks.

PS, I used the laptop to set up DSL service at another house. I'm not
sure if I'd used IE in the mean time. That may have messed up
something.

I took it over to the house where I used it on DSL, and it won't work
there either. I connected to a wireless network, and it won't work
either.

I can connect to the Internet, and a program that sends its results
over the Internet definitely works. Ping works too. But IE, Mozilla
Firefox, and email will not connect.

Well, I seem to have fixed it. First I removed the trial version of
McAfee, which had expired. Still wouldn't work. I turned off Windows
Firewall, and it started working. Then I turned Windows Firewall back
on - would not work, but Windows Firewall said that it wasn't using
the recommended settings. I told it to use the recommended settings,
and it is working.
